The greatest satisfaction for me as an architect is the impact I can have by creating buildings that play a major part in the happiness and well-being of those who live and work in them
— Colin Powell, Director, gcp

Colin studied and worked in commercial practice in London before moving to Bath in 1989 and joining gcp in 1995. A Chartered Architect with over 30 years’ experience, Colin has completed projects across the South West of England working with a range of clients in Residential, Health, Education, Hotel and Leisure sectors.

Following an interest in developing a deeper understanding of building physics and energy in buildings Colin completed an MSc in Environmental Design of Buildings at Cardiff University in 2006, achieving a distinction.  Extending this interest Colin completed training with The Building Research Establishment and passed the International PassivHaus Institute examination in Aug. 2011 to become the first chartered architect in the West of England Region to be a Certified PassivHaus Designer.

Colin’s approach is to work closely with clients focussing on finding the best design solution for their particular needs. Over recent years his specialist knowledge in sustainable design has been a particular strength in helping clients find practical solutions to delivering low energy buildings.

When not at work you can often find Colin behind a camera, his moody monochrome photography has been published in Black & White Photography Magazine and exhibited at the Royal West of England Academy and the Bristol Festival of Photography.
